About our Fellowship

The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. It consists of about 160 members, some of whom have been attending since our founding in 1957.

In October 2004 our congregation approved the following mission statement:

"The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence aspires to be a welcoming, intergenerational community that respects individual differences and beliefs. Together, we share the joys and milestones of life as we foster intellectual inquiry and spiritual understanding. In the larger community we promote social action and environmental responsibility."

In addition, we affirm the
Seven Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association
:

  1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement of spiritual growth in our congregations;
  4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  7. Respect for the interdependent web of existence of which we are a part.

The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence extends a warm welcome to bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender (BGLT) people and their families. We are a caring, open-minded community that encourages you to seek your own spiritual path. We believe that our First Principle, respecting "the inherent worth and dignity of every person," applies equally to people of all races, sexual orientations and gender identities, abilities, economic situations, and life circumstances.
